Fairfax County Virginia Raccoon Control Situation: Hi David, I'm in Fairfax County VA. My neighbor has a family of raccoons living in their chimney. I have a pond and a pool in my backyard. The other night...I saw an adult raccoon swimming in my fish pond having a wonderful time with my "gold fish". Any way to keep the raccoon out of my pond...until the mothers and the babies...get old enough to climb out of the chimney next door??? Hopefully they don't think the Holiday Inn is next door at my house and come for a holiday. J Thanks for your advise. Donna

I have a raccoon problem, and I'm considering poison because I don't know what else to do and things are getting dangerous. A family of them lives under my house. They've killed 6 of my chickens, including my two favorite, and now go after my dog and bite him till he squeals if I let him out at night (thankfully he's large, so I don't think they can kill him). Tonight they were setting up a racket in the chicken coop in the backyard again, so I walked out with a rake to chase them off again, and one of the big ones met me at the back door growling and staring like he was daring me to take a swing. I have no money to hire exterminators. I've tried blocking up the hole, but they just dug back under the foundation in another spot. I borrowed a live trap and managed to catch several OTHER animals, but never a raccoon. My dog has treed them and made me wish I had a gun, but I don't. I've though of trying to make a neck snare to catch them coming out of their holes, but I doubt my talent at that. They are loud, stinky, dangerous, and waking up me, my dog, and my toddler at all hours of the night (not to mention the poor chickens). What else can I do but poison them? Annie
