Quakertown Pennsylvania Raccoon Control Situation: Hi David, About three weeks ago, we began hearing noises in our attic and I smelled some poop in our garage above in the attic. I went up there and found three piles of poop and it appeared to have been from a raccoon. We cleaned out the poop and threw out all the storage boxes that were in the attic (various christmas decorations, etc.). I called my local animal control department and they referred me to a local professional in Quakertown. I called and the professional and he said he would come out and do an inspection. He said if we need to set traps there would be a $295 charge for trapping. He said that would include two weeks of monitoring. When he inspected the house from the outside he showed me the two areas that the raccoon entered through the soffit and into the attic. He set one trap outside and said we need to catch the mother. I paid him the $295 charge. He said that payment would cover three weeks monitoring. He told me to give him a call if the raccoon is trapped. After two days there was a live raccoon in the trap. I called the trapper and he said that was great and he would be out to get the raccoon and replace the trap with another one and plug the holes in the soffit with some sort of plastic to see if he got the right raccoon (if the plastic is torn then there is still a problem). I asked him what will do with the raccoon that was caught. He said he will shoot it. He said to wait on the repairs until after we are sure of that the right raccoon was caught. After we are sure that the right raccoon was caught, he said that he could do the repair and it would cost $200 for the first hole repair and $150 for the second one. He also said that he would then go in the attic to try to find and remove the babies. David, based on your expertise, how would you rate this professional's method and cost? Thanks, Angie

My response: That was expensive, and not a very good job. What was the company, or what part of the country do you live in?
