Fort Myers Florida Raccoon Control Situation: David, About two years ago I had raccoon damage on my roof. I had spot repairs done to the roof. Last summer, I heard the scampering of raccoons on my roof for the first time. I called someone to inspect, but apparently the raccoons had not gained entry into the attic or anything like that Recently, I have been hearing the scampering of raccoons on my roof, loud enough to wake me enough at night. Sometimes it sounds like a raccoon party up there, and I half expect to find empty bottles of beer and empty cans of party mix. This weekend, I noticed the familiar pattern of cedar shakes on my lawn with large pieces of pink insulation, so clearly they have now caused damage again. Interestingly, they appear to have attacked the exact same part of the house as two years ago. I am going to put on a whole new roof but want to take care of the raccoon problem first. Why have the raccoons targeted the same portion of the roof as before? Is there rotting wood there or something like that? Are these the same raccoons night after night? Are these the same raccoons as last year and two years ago? Why my house all of a sudden? Is this probably just one or two raccoons, or a whole family, or a whole tribe? If I get rid of the raccoons, will other raccoons just come to take their place? If I get a new roof, will these raccoons go away or will they damage my new roof? Do I need to tell the roofer to do anything like replace any rotting wood? Please give me your suggestions as to what you can do to get rid of this problem. Can you set traps? I am all for releasing them, but I understand they can easily find their way back to my house. Alternatively, if you want to blow their brains out I would have no problem with that either. I have owned this house for ten years and want to understand what has changed to now attract these critters. I am located in Fort Myers, Florida. You can call me at work. Thank you, Herb
